October 27, 2009

HistoryPic3.jpg On October 22nd 1924, Dr. Ralph Smedley created Toastmasters. It's been 85 years and the organization has certainly come a long way, helping hundreds of thousands of people help improve their communication and leadership skills. In this episode we take a glimpse of that 85 year timeline in less than 10 minutes.  Did you know when the first Toastmasters Magazine was published or when women were finally allowed to be members of a club? You can see the detailed timeline by visiting Toastmasters.org.  Happy Birthday Toastmasters!

Amazing what an individual can do in 10 minutes let alone 85 years. Mr. Smedley died Sep 11, 1965 at age 87.

Yes. Sad. I would have really like to have met him. Imagine sitting down with him and having a coffee? What stories he could tell?

Hello, Greg. I was impressed with the excitement and enthusiasm that you demonstrated in this podcast. You sounded very genuine. Too often, topics like this are presented as a run of the mill, boring, rundown of dates that stimulate zzzz’s more often than not! Your conclusion was especially good: ‘on behalf of myself and the other ## of……Toastmasters’ was a good twist.

Thanks Bev! It was fun… I tried to make sure it wasn’t dull and dry. Glad you enjoyed it!
